Welcome to the Littleport Lions Korfball Club website.

Welcome to the home of the Littleport Lions! Thank you for taking the time to have a look around the website of the newest, most exciting Cambridgeshire Korfball club. Alternatively if you were looking for Lilliputian loins there is help, both for dyslexia and psychological nuances but unfortunately not here – we ran out of web space!
Right, now you’re here you may be wondering what Korfball is: Don’t worry, nobody’s really that sure but we’ll do our best to clue you in!
Korfball is a sport created by a Dutch geezer called Nico Broekhuysen in 1902 when even back then he realised there was no point playing the Americans at basketball.
That said the sport of Korfball borrows heavily from Basketball as well as taking facets from many other sports such as netball and handball creating perhaps the ultimate team sport.
What makes Korfball stand out from other sports you say? Well, for a start you can play with the opposite sex. On the court even. Legally too. Each team is made up of four male and four female players who play in two sets of four of equal gender – Two boys, two girls on both halves of the court. One set attacks, the other defends. The main aim in attack is to score in a basket 11.5 feet off the ground with no backboard while the defenders try and stop you. After two goals have been scored the positions swap so the attackers defend and vice versa.
That’s the simple slice of what Korfball is about, you can check out the full rules which can be found elsewhere on the site and can be downloaded should you need some exciting bedtime reading.
That covers the Korfball introduction, now a little about the Lions as a team.
Currently the Lions have 36 active members on their roster spread out over four teams and are always looking for new players to join. In four years Lions have become one of the biggest clubs in Cambridgeshire and have had many successes both on and off court. We’ve also found that Korfball is a fantastic excuse for trips to other countries with our exploits in Holland have become legendary!
For new players we can meet most needs since people can play to any level they wish, simply as an enjoyable form of exercise or to slam evil doers and play as competitively as you like. People from all walks of life are more than welcome and our players are drawn from a varied pool of different shapes and sizes as well as any age.
We have several junior members that have joined through school feeder clubs as well has having a number of county players and even two full internationals. As stated above, we are always looking to expand and are a friendly bunch so feel free to drop by and give Korfball a try with us. Meh, if the Korfball doesn’t float your boat just join us in the bar afterwards!
Training Times: 21.00-22.30 Tuesdays (Fixed)/Other times to be arranged on Tuesday as per the week.
